Mammoth March 2024

This summer, thanks to KH, 6 skeletons from the Excelsior community entered the Mammoth March in Delaware Valley -- a 20 mile hike inside the diverse terrain of Fair Hill State Park. All participants had 8 hours to complete the hike. There were over a hundred participants.

Leading up to the hike, we trained tons of spine, hips, and knees in Kinstretch. We donned our Xero and minimal shoes, and took a few practice hikes to work our way to higher mileage.

Our group ranged from age 16 to age 60+. And included bodies that had recovered from past illness, joint replacements, and injuries.

It was work! But the overall consensus was that we each felt solid. Lower backs, hips, and knees held their own. Our training paid off.

Where we all reported the most challenge, where we noted we needed even more specific training, was in the FEET and TOES. And since the hike, we've held several Kinstretch classes focused almost exclusively on just that.

Ever been to the gym to train your feet? Its never too late to start. What options you have in the foundational joints of your feet and ankles will affect everything else.

“We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started, and know the place for the first time.”
